The opening ceremony for the 6th ‘Friend’ for Life’s Journeys
On 22/11, about 40 Secondary 4 students participated in the opening ceremony of ‘Friend’ for Life’s Journey’, held in St. Antonius Girl’s College, organized by the Mass Transit Railway Corporation (MTRC), with Mr. Lai Tung-Kwok, Secretary for Security, being the guest of honour. Our school has taken an active part in the scheme for 6 years, with some of our graduates being the preparation committee members. Our principal, Mr. Tsui, was invited to attend the ceremony, too. The host interviewed Mr. Tsui on stage, asking him ‘Every year there are a lot of students from your school participating in this event and some of them even become members of the preparation committee. What advice would you give to them and the present participants?’ Mr. Tsui replied, ‘The reasons behind is that my students cherish this experience and would like to pass the spirit to the next generation. Our students recognize its importance and are willing to devote themselves into it… I sincerely hope that fellow students can grasp the opportunity and enrich your life experience.’
Note:Since 2009, the MTRC has been organizing the ‘Friend’ for Life’s Journeys Scheme. Through various activities, teenagers expand their horizons and equip themselves to future challenges. The highlight of the scheme is each student will be matched with one young, enthusiastic staff of the MTRC. The staff become the ‘friend’of MTRC and shared their life experience with our fellow students, with an attempt to inspire and help them build a positive attitude, as well as understand their full potential. The scheme lasts for 8 months, which includes mentorship program, railway depot visit, adventure camp, ‘Think Creatively’ Workshop and Sponsorship to volunteer work, etc. Other schools in Kwun Tong are also participating in this scheme, such as Fukien Secondary School, Kwun Tong Maryknoll College, St. Antonius Girl’s College and CCC Kei Chi Secondary School.
