Gearing teachers towards building students to become self-directed learners
The school put heavy emphasis on enhancing teacher’s capacity building in line with our school development needs. As one of our major concerns is to continuously enhance the classroom learning effectiveness, we conclude that our students’ competence and motivation in becoming self-directed learners will be the key puzzle to the jigsaw. During the period of 3rd to 5th November, the entire teaching faculty conducted a professional development programme and interflow with our mainland counterparts in Foshan on the notion of self-directed learning. We have grasped one important value in the process and that is teacher’s role is not solely to teach literacy but to guide students to empower themselves with the life-long skills necessary to become self-directed learners. This value will continue to evolve in our learning and teaching culture and curriculum development.
