SING OUT the hidden voices in a top-notch musical production
Over the whole year, a yellow gigantic poster stuck in the school’s entrance notice board was a no-ordinary poster for a musical production. Rather, it was a production by an award-winning composer, and a big group of our students where two of our students played the leading roles and discovered their inner strength and values.
The production entitled Sing Out, an original Cantonese musical sponsored by the Lee Hysan Foundation, was premiered on Friday night (8th September) at Kwai Tsing Theatre with tickets all completely sold out for five shows.
The production depicted a tale of modern-day city youths who revisited basic human values and explored their potential, gaining acceptance through the power of performing arts. Issues concerning young people such as the definition of success and excellence, and when it comes to ethnic minorities or new immigrants from China, what it means to be a Hongkonger. Armin our recent graduate, a lead actress in the production, quoted her experience as follows:
“I cried a lot during rehearsals as never in a million years would I think that I would have to do two hours of acting in Cantonese. I never knew I could devote myself to something and actually achieve it. Now I know I have that in me,”
“I also discovered that we ethnic minorities could actually work together and have fun with locals. Before that, we never spoke to each other,” (Source: South China Morning Post 7th September, 2017)
The school was dazzled with the hard work, effort and determination put in the show by the students (casts and crew), and participating teachers. Hipwoers commend their excellent performance and 100% devotion. The school also expresses gratitude to Lee Hysan Foundation for giving this meaningful opportunity to our students and amplifying the hidden voices to the greater society of Hong Kong.
The vales of respect, acceptance and appreciation does not stop here. It continues……
